Family Snaps

img_2174

Last week’s photography theme was Family so what better opportunity than a family hike on Boxing Day? But I forgot to check my settings. Apparently you can’t be a photographer and a Rain Whisperer successfully on the same day! My camera was letting in way too much light, making the pics very grainy.

Not to be deterred by minor mishaps, I decided to use a filter that made the pics look like Kodak snaps from the 1920’s!

Bare Feet

Bare feet is this week’s photography theme. Okay I’m stretching it a bit here, but really, human feet are ugly. Mine definitely are, thanks to my passion for long distance running. I’m minus one toenail and there’s lots of callused skin and bruising going on there! So here is my submission for Bare Feet:

How racy are these bare red feet? I’m very proud of this photograph – the light was quite low and the bird was moving fast!

And how cute are the bare pink feet on this rather plump pigeon?

Warmth

Warm is a fabulous theme for me – I just adore warm colours! This is one of my favourite pics taken in the Monsters theme village in the Xitou area of Taiwan.

These lanterns are found all over the show in that country and I even have a few. The only problem is that the Old Goat has been banned from doing electrical DIY. He once set a tumble drier alight by doing a small electrical “bypass”. I arrived home to find the entire farm staff rushing into my bathroom with wet sacks to beat out the flames. Heaven alone knows what havoc he can wreak with my lanterns.

Spooky

Dadun Road, Taichung

Halloween is huge in Taiwan. All the shops are decorated with grinning pumpkins and spooky stuff.

I spotted this at our corner “shit shop” – yes, that is the correct terminology, as used by the Taiwanese, to describe a shop which appears to be cheap but which stocks everything from a spanner to a face mask.

Younger Generation

Younger generation is the next theme for my photography catch up. I’m guessing they were looking for cute babies or fluffy kittens but I’m all out of those. Instead may I present the up and coming owner of our favourite pizza place in Taichung, “IL Volo” home to the best chicken and blue cheese pizza in the world!

Here he is being strapped into place on his mom’s scooter wondering what us mad Westerners are up to!

Photography Catch Up – Road Tripping

I have five photography theme projects to catch up – Warm, Rain, Younger Generation, Spooky and Road Tripping, so here we go – I’m starting with Road Tripping.

img_1489This Taiwanese dog is very clearly enjoying his road trip! It seems to be a common pastime for dogs in the East – they hop on and off scooters without batting an eyelid.  Even the ones that are a little plump….
